Read With Me

Last Saturday I knew I wasn't going to do too much with Dr. Seuss's birthday.  But I thought I could at least make the kids some green eggs and ham for breakfast (well it was really green eggs and bacon which is even better!) So last Saturday was my crazy cleaning day.  I was able to clean the whole house top to bottom, which I haven't been able to accomplish in one day in . . . well forever. :)  While I was busy cleaning, Erik took the kids to a Dr. Seuss event that the library put on.  The kids saw the Staker kids over there which I'm sure made it more fun :) Not sure if I would call it a tradition, but like last year I let the kids pick out one new Dr. Seuss book to add to our collection.  I guess we'll stop once we've gotten all of the good ones? And then Jackson had a pretty special guest at his school this week.  Debra Frasier, the children's book author, visited Greenwood Mill for a couple of days this week.  It was interrupted b...

Snowquester!

Image
Tuesday night we were in full excitement mood about the impending snow storm blowing our way.  The Washington Post named it "Snowquester" which I thought was hilarious.  We were just excited to have a day off of school with no responsibilities! We woke up  Wednesday morning, to a world that had indeed become white.  I probably was more excited about this storm, because I'm assuming (?) it will be our last one of the winter.  Rather than playing in the snow, Anna was content to sit on the tricycle with the phone :) Hard at work, shoveling.  And oh my gosh, that shoveling was crazy hard!  The snow that was coming down was so wet and heavy.  I shoveled for about 10 minutes, but then started to feel weird twinges in my back so I stopped.  Luckily, our really nice neighbor John, used his snow blower on our driveway :) And there is nothing cozier than some warm treats on a snowy day.  I seem to have ...

First Part of March Randoms

Wyatt, showing me what a groovy cat he is. love that girl I loved Jackson's chapel that he made out blocks.  Complete with pews, podium, and wall architecture :) cutie pie Anna and Wyatt have both had coughs and colds.  This has caused Anna to crash wherever she is by late afternoon. She's really into markers right now.  Yay for Mom! :/ Wyatt had been begging me to let him to take a bath in his swimsuit like he was at the beach.  His little happy dance shows how he felt about how the situation! A few days ago, it was a decently sunny day so Wyatt, Anna, and I dragged our winter-hibernated bodies outside for some fresh air.  I got overly excited about doing some kind of garden prep, so I started frantically pulling some old weeds.  They were really really stuck in there, and as I finally pulled them out I realized they were chives with some new growth on them!  Are chives are a perennial tha...

Oscars, Park, and Singin' in the Rain

So because we made really good time on our drive back to Winchester, we were home at around 8:00.  Sadly, the kids were already in bed (well, super kudos to my Mom for accomplishing this!)  I was missing them so very much, and I have to admit I was bummed to wait until morning to give them all gigantic hugs! I had planned all along to have our little Oscar party on Monday evening.  I had a full menu planned with a different food item represented each of the films nominated for best picture.  However, thinking of the Academy Awards just being on and me not watching them seemed so weird, so I asked my Mom and Erik how they felt about watching them that night.  They wanted to as well, so that's what we did.  Well, actually Erik fell asleep 30 minutes in, but my Mom and I had fun watching them! :) Oh and as you can see I didn't do too bad on my ballot. So yeah I won the Dove chocolate- woohoo! I still wanted to make at least some of the food I ...
